CASE FILE — PRIVACY POLICY

Privacy Policy

What data this site collects, why, and how it is handled under UK GDPR.

Data Controller

The Claim File operates as the data controller for theclaimfile.co.uk and is contactable at enquiries@theclaimfile.co.uk. This policy applies to this domain only.

Data This Site Collects

Three categories of data are collected. First, correspondence data: where a message is sent to the address above, the sender's email address, name if given, and the content of the message are received and stored. Second, technical data: standard server and content-delivery logs — IP address, browser type, referring page, and timestamp — are generated automatically for every visitor as part of normal web hosting, whether or not any other action is taken on the site. Third, font-loading data: this site loads typefaces from Google's font service (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com); loading a font from that service discloses the visitor's IP address to Google as the request is made.

How It Is Used

Correspondence data is used only to respond to the enquiry it relates to. Technical data is used to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the site — identifying and blocking abusive traffic, diagnosing errors, and understanding aggregate usage. No data collected through this site is sold, used for advertising, or combined with data from any other site.

Legal Basis

Correspondence data is processed on the basis of legitimate interest in responding to enquiries directed to the site. Technical data is processed on the basis of legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and operational. Neither use requires separate consent under UK GDPR.

Cookies

This site does not itself set cookies for tracking, analytics, or advertising. The hosting and content-delivery infrastructure may set strictly necessary cookies as part of delivering the site securely — for example, distinguishing genuine visitors from automated traffic. These are functional, not used to build a profile of the visitor, and are not offered as an opt-out because they are necessary for the site to operate.

Third Parties

Two third parties process data in connection with this site: the hosting and content-delivery provider, which processes technical logs to serve the site; and Google, which processes IP addresses when a visitor's browser requests a typeface from Google's font service. Neither third party is authorised to use this data for its own advertising purposes in connection with this site.

Retention

Correspondence is retained only as long as needed to deal with the enquiry and any immediate follow-up, then deleted or archived under normal mailbox practice. Technical logs are retained according to the hosting provider's standard retention period, typically a matter of weeks, and are not kept indefinitely.

Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, a data subject has the right to: access the data held about them; have inaccurate data corrected; have data erased; restrict or object to processing; and receive their data in a portable format, where these rights apply. Any of these can be exercised by writing to the address above. There is also a right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) directly, without contacting this site first.

International Transfers

Google's font service may process data outside the UK. Where this occurs, it is subject to the safeguards Google maintains for international transfers under UK GDPR, including standard contractual clauses where applicable.

Children

This site is not directed at children and no data is knowingly collected from anyone under 18.
